Portraits before and after death….

Maybe it was by chance that I can across this today….and having a look at all those photos…I just feel like I wanna curl up in my bed with silence around me…maybe becoz I knew people who died of cancer…
Be sure to read the text accompanying the photos.
“This somber series of portraits taken of people before and after they had died is a challenging and poignant study. The work by German photographer Walter Schels and his partner Beate Lakotta, who recorded interviews with the subjects in their final days, reveals much about dying – and living.”

Breakfast @ Tiffanys….Shah Alam style…

We woke up early on Sunday Morning (01/12/2008)…Breakfast @ Tiffanys….Shah Alam style…
It was a family affair yet 110% pure fun – coz we didnt have to cook ha ha ha

It was our second visit to the Shah Alam Stadium Sunday Morning Market. DH has actually mentioned it a zillion of times. I’m sure food lovers will go ga-ga-ga at what this HUGE bazaar has to offer.

We went crazy on Roti Jala, Murtabak & of course Tapai Pulut for me and Sata for DH.

We’re planning for another visit once its *chut-leong* again (my kantonese friends,  i hope I spelt that rite he he he)

And as for my favourite snack – Tapai Pulut….I had totally forgot about it sitting nicely in my freezer…and sure was darn good when I had it today…he he he silly me

In My Daughter’s Eyes…

I think every mother who has a daughter or daughters should listen to this song…its our daughters that makes us unique.

Martina Mcbride – In My Daughter’s Eyes

In my daughter’s eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
In my daughter’s eyes

In my daughter’s eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the
world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me gives me
strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter’s eyes

And when she wraps her hand
around my finger
Oh it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about

It’s hangin’ on when your heart
has had enough
It’s giving more when you feel like giving up
I’ve seen the light
It’s in my daughter’s eyes

In my daughter’s eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
Though she’ll grow and someday leave
Maybe raise a family
When I’m gone I hope you see how happy
she made me
For I’ll be there
In my daughter’s eyes

Love your bumps

I’ve not visited myspace for quite sometime now. Bersawang (Cobwebs)

Yesterday I came across a posting made by my fren’s sister who had recently given birth.

I kinda felt for her. Especially the part where she writes

Usually these bimbo comments either comes from people who have never been pregnant, or people who forgot what they had been through because it happens yonks ago, hipokrits and old biddies. Dah boleh agak la. Even before they opened their bimbo mouth pun aku dah boleh agak dorang nak ckp pasal apa. I am not blind, I know I look fat compared to my pre-pregnancy state but did ya really need to point it out loud to me? Hati busuk sungguh. Women yg baru melahirkan anak and those non-hipokrits never ever would have said those kind of things to orang yang tengah berpantang. Because firstly, they are realistic and secondly, they know how hard it is to lose the weight.

According to a survey done by a UK magazine in 2005 95% of moms think celebs losing weight so drastically after giving birth puts immense and unwelcome pressure on ordinary mums. In Malaysia its worse because we’ve gotten so accustomed to all those old wives regim of berpantang etc. Reason being 1.Takut suami lari (husbands will stray away)..becoz a fat wife is not desired.

Well I pity those who have husbands such as that. I pity them more because they base their marriage on that.  I cannot deny there are men who just stray away – even if they have a stick straight gorgeous wife. Sorry guys but men like these are pigs – there I said it.

I’m glad for her and for myself as well as for all ladies out there who HAVE husbands that love them as they are.

It all boils down to the begining..as one friend writes in his blog

Tidak perlu mencari teman secantik balqis,
andai diri tak sehebat sulaiman.
Mengapa mengharap teman setampan Yusof jika kasih tak setulus hati.

Barongan..Kuda Kepang

DH & me came back to my parent’s home town for Eidul Adha this time around.

As we reach the corner of Simpang Kangkar Senangar, I called up my mom and she mentioned about a certain family of hers having a wedding reception earlier that day and wondered if I would like to join. Knowing it was HER side of family members I jumped at the opportunity. Reason being…they are so into performaning arts – especially anything to do with Javanese traditions.

True to my expectations, my mom’s sister-in-law’s brother’s family – whom she had stayed with during her student years – held a live band playing ghazal & melayu asl music, as well as a barangon-kuda kepang & tarian zapin performance. This was definately very exciting

I totally forgot to bring my camera…but defnately made full use of my mobile he he he

Like Kuda kepang dance, Barongan has strong elements of trance and totemic worship. The Barongan is said to depict the dance of a hybrid (or mystical multifaceted) creature of diverse origins.

There are varieties of Barongan, one of which combines the features of a tiger and a peacock that were said to dance on the back of the Prophet Solomon.

Then Ganung, a lady-in-waiting joined them and the Barongan dance was created. According to another tale, there was a man who often amused himself by teasing fairies.

The fairies became so angry with him that they turned him into a Barongan creature. He was also cursed to forever follow the Kuda Kepang. This is perhaps the reason a Kuda Kepang performance often followed by a Barongan performance.

Performed by Malays of Javanese origin, the Barongan is largely limited to the Batu Pahat district of Johor, although the ‘dragon-headed’ Barongan may also be found in Muar.

Tarian Barongan
